My, how time flies...

Things have been so hectic here.  I have been getting in gear for our busy season and have neglected the blog once again.  I hope everyone is looking forward to fall as much as I am.

I didn't want to let summer get away without posting a
"Moccasin Holler Memoir"
Outdoor Toilets…

Hmmm, not one of my best memories.  Especially the time we went to Granny and Papa’s and I had to make a trip to the “facilities”.  I locked myself in and picked up some pages out of the Sears’ & Roebuck catalog.  I was in the process of crinklin’ the pages up to make them nice and soft when I looked down.  On the floor, peeking out from under the pages was what appeared to be the face of a little squirrel.  Well, who doesn’t love a cute, little squirrel?  So, I reached down and pulled back the pages.

Like a bolt of lightening, a creature rushed out from under those pages and began to attack me.  It was HUGE and so fast I couldn’t tell what it was, definitely not a squirrel!  It could even walk on the ceiling.  The battle seemed to go on for hours.

Actually, the only battle was between me and the latch on the outhouse door. I finally escaped and ran as fast as I could, which wasn’t very fast.  Have you ever tried to run while shaking with fear and trying not to fall over the britches that are wrapped around your ankles?

Finally, my haven of love and safety was within reach.  I headed straight to the kitchen door and the arms of Mama and Granny.  I knew that when they heard about the danger I had so narrowly escaped, they would grab me, hug me tight and tell me everything was alright…nothing was going to hurt me now.  And, most importantly, they would send Papa out to kill the monster.

Noooo, they doubled over laughing when they heard my tale of horror!  I was never so hurt and humiliated.  It seems a big lizard had taken up residence in the outhouse that summer and they were happy about it, seein’ as how it ate bugs.  Bugs, my foot, didn’t they realize the thing nearly ate me!!

I hope you all enjoyed this.  I love sharing my childhood.  I was truly blessed to have grown up in such a wonderful place and time...a little stretch in the road called Moccasin Holler, located in the Bootheel of Missouri.  The time, the 50's-60's.

P.S.  Just for clarification, the pic is one of our barns...not a toilet! :)

How time does fly...

I am sure all of you already knew that time flies.  I can remember wishing my 16th birthday would "hurry up and get here".  Then it finally did and I started wishing for my 18th.  My Granny kept telling me I was wishing my life away.  It took a few years, but, I eventually realized how wise she was.
My last post was in April. I turned around twice and it is August!!!  I had so many plans way back in April.  I did get a few of them completed.  I taught a painting class, got my painting room all organized and began to paint.  I even got a new snowman design completed.  Please excuse the quality of the photo, sure wish the colors were clearer...time for a new camera!!  If you click on the pic, the colors are a little clearer on the bigger image.
I also have a couple of new snowman ornies ready for hubby to cut out...pics to come as soon as they are done.
AND...I have reached 1008 followers on my Facebook Business Page Holly Ridge Folk Art.  Guess what that means, a GIVEAWAY!!  So, if you aren't already a follower, click on the link and join in the fun.  I will be posting more about the GIVEAWAY on my Facebook page this week.
Thanks for stopping by,
 Judy

I am getting excited...

It is a beautiful day here in Southeast Missouri, it has been a beautiful week!  I am headed to my "painting room", yippee.  I have some rearranging to do and things will be in order, almost.  Hubby is making me a new paintbrush holder.  A has a few more cuts and some gluing and it will be finished.  As of right now, my brushes are in piles!

I am so looking forward to using my new brush holder in my new paint room!!  Will be posting pics of new paintings real soon!!

Hope everyone is having a wonderful day.

Spring is here, I think...

Our weather has been crazy.  But, then, this is Southeast Missouri! We have had really warm days, really cold days and everything in between.  And, of course, thunderstorms and lots of showers.  I am pretty sure there have been more wet days than dry.  But, I have been inside with what we so lovingly call "The Crud".  After 7 weeks, I decided enough was enough and went to the doctor. Just finished up 10 days of antibiotics and they seem to have done the trick.
So, today I decided to check out the yard.  I wanted to see how my peonies are doing, they have been through so much...a long story I will save for another day.
The clematis have their first blooms on one of the vines. The other two vines have buds waiting to burst with color. Ignore the old windows and the wood, I have plans for those!
The snowball bush and this other one (please help me with the name) are so pretty.

And, the columbine and hosta's are coming along nicely.

Now for the sad part.  Keep in my this is the first time I have been out in the flowers this spring. Remember, the real reason for venturing out today was peonies.  Tell me if you can see them!!!
I have to say I was shocked.  I was expecting some weeds, but, not this jungle!!  Now to find the time and energy to tackle it when I really want to be creating and painting!!!
That's it for me today. Thanks for stopping by.
